Welcome Garden Lovers

If you have your speakers on you can probably hear the sounds of nature about now. If you would like to turn off these sounds you may scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the pause button. I have a few themes available so feel free to scroll down and choose your own.

Adios Google

Yes, the time has come for Google and I to part ways.  I have had a Wordpress blog since last year and have let my Blogger blog sit, so folks linking from elsewhere could find me.

Today I am going through all the blogs I have in my reader and transferring my favorites that have been posting regularly over into my Wordpress reader.  If you are still using blogger and have not checked into Wordpress I highly suggest you do, it is so much more attractive and easier to use (and has many FREE templates).  And in case you didn't know, Google Reader is going away!  Maybe it is just me (but probably not) I find all the different Google menus and pages and stuff just so confusing, unattractive and hard to use.

So if you want to follow my new blog come on over!  I post about my shop and the projects I am working on as well as garden stuff (more of this now that spring is here) and things I like etc...

Turning Over a New Leaf

legobannerintrepidavatartextFB

I have been thinking about starting a new blog for quite a while now and because of this I have not posted much on my old blogger blogs this year, both my “LowellandSon” blog and “TheTinyGarden” blog.  I have finally decided to take the leap and just change everything!  I am changing the name of my shop on Etsy from LowellandSon to TheTinyGarden to reflect more of myself and my passions, crafting and gardening.  My son Vaughan, who was with me at the beginning when I opened my Etsy shop, has been less interested in crafting the last couple years and more interested in video games and playing his trumpet, so I am on my own.

Over the next couple weeks I will be changing everything over to the new name, my Etsy shop, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and of course my blog.  I may go back through my posts on both blogs and re-post some things that new readers might be interested in plus I will be posting about lots of new stuff.  I definitely like this new WordPress format way more than Blogger, and I hope my postings and frequency will reflect that.

I hope those of you that follow this blog will make the leap to the new one, I would hate to lose any of you and I promise that you and the new blog will get much more attention.

My NEW home is here:  http://thetinygarden.wordpress.com/

Cheers!

Mary Engelbreit–Fun House

One of my long term projects is going through all of my magazines, scanning the pages I would like to remember into my computer and then passing the magazines along to family or friends.  I am getting closer to being done and have recently hooked the scanner back up to my laptop in the kitchen so I can do a little at a time while I am doing other stuff.  One of my favorite and most missed magazines is Mary Engelbreit’s Home Companion.  I hope she will be back someday but in the mean time I can still enjoy my “vintage” issues.  This particular photo I really love because of the daring color choices made by the homeowner.  I think she can really get away with it because of her surrounding gardens.  If this house just sat in the middle of a lawn it would perhaps be the neighborhood eyesore.

Color Palette–Winter Window

This window was one of my favorite decorations in the tiny garden.  It was  salvaged from my parents bathroom when my father replaced the windows.  Their home is over 100 years old though the bathroom is an add on.  The window does have some wonderful old wavy glass in it.  Unfortunately this window was already well on its way to falling apart before I hung it outside so I had to find it a new home inside, up on the “plant ledge” in my kitchen/living room.  This photo was taken during one of our unusual Pacific Northwest snow storms.

The Colors that Surround Us

wooded tones design seeds

I really admire the palettes created by Jessica at Design Seeds, especially the ones inspired by nature.  This is something I would like to try and work into my blog on a regular basis and I hope it is something you may enjoy.  I have found a website that will help me out a little with it and combined with some other editing I will bring you nature palettes from The Tiny Garden soon.
